Today Is Thursday May 14 2020, This Is What Happen

This is my first time participating in THURSDAY RAIN ART DATE and as you notice Rain has it plan out for 2020, for entire year.

Just finished up anther page to my sketch book project for BROOKLYN ART LIBRARY and doing the sketchbook has been slow.

I am doing a historical and as planet Pluto travels though each zodiac sign.
Pluto is consider a generational planet, and not many live today who actual remember this time in our history.
We looking at time period of 1914 to 1937. The main event here was major economic shift...the United States had enjoyed the gilded age and roaring 20's. We entered into the Great Depression and closes thing to socialism. We also had severe DEFLATION then .
Then Europe had HYPER INFLATION, because unfinished business of WW1, and this is time Nazi political power came in, borrowing money  and capitalism grew for a small percentage of people there.
A crab has shell or uses one to hide in. There many reason why some who had to hide. So I crochet a cover using different items, represent taking cover like those that didn't fit into the Nazi program.
But here in United States my cover represent covering up one could be possible destitute.
Some of photo I seen of this time period seem to be DOWN TROTTEN.
This piece is done from a story my mom told me as she and her sibling were growing up in the Northwest corner of Nebraska.
Two of her bothers and she took and old tire inner tube. They pull it between to fence post and nailed it. They were pulling it back and see how far they could fired rocks, and as I under stood some was fist size.
Until there dad (My grandpa) showed up. And they had to take it down.
I guess the kids were impress how far the rocks could fly. But there dad weren't impress and thought it could hit some one and hurt or possible kill someone.
At each end of photo I did wheel barrow or market cart. I seen cartoon drew of people pushing wheel barrow of money, to represent hyper inflation.
My grandma had market cart and sold items from it, to help the family out.
Yellow flower is my mom, blue flower would be my two uncle as they were younger, and the black flower would be my grandpa.
Piece of elastic colored with a marker for the inner tube. As for cover people didn't waste and became very resourceful of material they gain.
The crochet cover has different type of yarn, fabric and even shoelace in it.
My mom even they lived in horrible poverty. She said her childhood wasn't an un-happy one. Even being one of 12. She said never once she every heard her parents every complain about all the kids my grandparents had.
Capricorn is in Pluto right now.

  3. I have many stories of the depression from my mother as well, so I can relate to what you are saying. I would say the kids were being creative. Finding a way to pass the time even if someone could get hurt, as your Grandpa pointed out. Today kids rely on being supplied with things to keep them happy ... their creativity is often not used ... sadly. However, I am guessing your two son's creativity was nurtured as you seem to be full of ideas and ways to interpret things. I do have to wonder though, why Grandpa is a black flower :) Enjoyed my visit with you ... hope to see you again.

  4. It's nice to meet you Dora. What an impressive first post. I enjoyed reading about your grandfather's and mother's side of the depression. It's always good to get a different perspective of things. I totally enjoyed reading about the depression and seeing your incredible art you created, too. Your sketchbook must be very full of wonderful art, crochet, and beautiful stories. I am impressed you chose to recycle everything in the crochet, too.

  13. Times were so hard then. Imagine having to help out at a young age and just taking it in their stride, no complaints. Kids today are just the opposite. But we cannot compare. Wonderful flowers to remember your love ones
