It was beautiful day to begin Lithia , summer solstice or some may say mid summer
The picture above is looking south down our road. Anyhow that our cat Ziggy in the picture.
I made a Litha pie which I got the recipe sometime ago from Jaspenelleand my friend Quenella brought a rhubarb pie which is my all time favor pie.
Her and her hubby Earl just got done making 10 gallons of rhubarb wine
Ingredients:
· A pie shell
Ingredients for the nectarine layer:
· 3 cups of nectarines or peaches (peeled and sliced)
· 2 Tbsp sugar
· 1 Tbsp lemon juice
· 1 tsp cornstarch
· 1 Tbsp butter or margarine
Ingredients for the berries layer
· 4 cups of blackberries or blueberries (I use 2 cups of each)
· 1/4 cup sugar
· 1 Tbsp lemon juice
· 1 tsp cornstarch
· A dash of cinnamon
· 1 Tbsp butter or margarine
Instructions:
1. Bake pie crust at 350ºF for about 15 to minutes. Let cool on rack.
2. Mash the peaches with sugar, lemon juice, and cornstarch and pour into a saucepan. Cook on medium for 5 minutes until it thickens.
3. Mash 2 cups of the berries with the sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Cook in saucepan over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Add in the butter with the rest of the whole berries and stir. Cool and pour it over top of the peach layer.
Chill and serve.
Standing left to right is Earl, Peppy, Quenella, and Murphy. I invited anther family out to celebrate with us.
But they couldn’t come. Murphette knee was bothering her. She has fibromyalgia and some other bone problem. It was acting up.
But we had a great time just visiting. We start with drinks Qunella and I had ice coffee that sure brought.
Earl and Murphy had beer out of our fridge. Murphy isn’t much of a drinker and I ended up finish his beer.
Quenella brought some chips and dip that she made and it was outstanding. I need to get it and share it with you all.
Plus they brought some grapes.
Earl brought his one steak and his horseshoes. The two men tossed Horseshoes including Bart tossed some.
It seems like at our family reunion we play a lot of horseshoes.
Actual I can toss horseshoes fairly well, which I don’t do very often.
Quenella hasn’t ever played horseshoes before. She isn’t very adventure toward new things and ideals.
I’m actual taken on new things and ideal.
Then after we ate barbeque hamburgers and all the toppings. Plus we had baked beans with it.
Then we played one game of pinochle. Murphy and I were against Earl and Quenella. Murphy and I ended up being the winners.
On the last hand Earl got sick and Bart ended up playing his tricks out. He did a great job for the first time. But I think he was nervous
For being now summer and Sunday it time for feverish thoughts
My Aunt Eve gave me this Lupine. Which is planted in my hodgepodge flowerbed. I have anther one in my royal sunshine flower bed which isn’t as far as this one. Fact time..it is quite a way behind the one in the hodgepodge flower bed.
But it seem that flower bed blooms a little later then the others
I don’t recall the name of these flower. When I was taking care of Callie over at the Bonners Ferry Apartments the mangers let me dig some of these flowers and I put them in my hodgepodge flowerbed.
I’m thinking now adding some to my royal sunshine flowerbed
My friend Quenella gave me this Silvia plant which I might look for some more in different color and texture. I like the little soft looks of these flowers.
Once again I’m considering breaking this up this fall and adding it to my royal sunshine flowerbed
Yummmm those pies look good! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe:-) Sounds like you had a wonderful time celebrating with your friends...a nice relaxing day doing fun things. I haven't played horseshoes in years but I remember my dad loving to play that when I was little. Aren't the Lupines gorgeous?! I use to have some growing in my front flowerbed but someone must have pulled them out because they're gone!!! xox
ReplyDeleteYour unknown yellow flower looks like yellow loosestrife. (Lysimachia punctata)
