Let start just start with a comment that ANVIL CLOUD We need a car even in a town, at least one of any size. You might not need one in a village, but then you’re stuck in a small space.
I know larger cities have public transportation. Us here in the United States who live smaller community has limited public transportation. In some ways it getting better. On Thursday we now have bus that will take us down to Sandpoint, the next town of any size.
Last month our car gas ran about $95 worth of fuel for the month.
In all reality I know public transportation, can't handle everything in life.
I knew someone who lived in New York City, and didn't own rig. Use the subways and such. If they want to leave the city. They rented a vehicle.
But soon as she came out west, she bought a rig.
But for those on Medicaid can get transportation to medical appointment. But in general Medicare don't handle the everyday things on medical transportation. But ambulance they will pick up 80% usually. But Private insurance will vary from plan to plan. Which helps.
Coffee is on.
I have read a lot on youtube about the cost of an ambulance in your country and have to say I would flag down a horse and buggy instead if a car or bus wasn't available.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a bot in the city of Montres;, we managed without a car. When we moved to wider spaces, we needed one.
ReplyDeleteI have been living in cities my whole life and public transportation here is quite convenient. So we don't own a car.
ReplyDeleteI have a car just because our public transport system is not quite dependable, especially since I live in a village.
ReplyDeleteYour medical care is incredibly complicated, and seems to be designed to make profits for big companies, rather than offer good medical care to everyone.
ReplyDeleteExcuse my ignorance, but doesn't a modern nation like the USA have universal health care? It sounds as if Medicare don't cover every citizen who needs it.
ReplyDeleteA determining factor in where I bought a home, was access to public transport. Good public transit narrowed the list of cities I wanted to live in to a handful. From time to time, I think about moving to a small town, then I think about my age and the necessity of driving in most small towns, and I think I will stay right where I am at. A ten minute walk from one of the top ten transit systems in the country.
ReplyDelete...public transportation is poor here!
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the public transportation there.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was still in a city I had a care but didn't need it for day-to-day. Where I live now there is no way of getting around without one.
ReplyDeleteIt is unfortunate in North America we have build communities that don't have decent public transportation.
ReplyDeleteI take a taxi if I must go to ER. Its much much cheaper than ambo. I went once when I popped a ligament on my knee. Gas prices are breaking so many people. I hope to be able to go camping but won't go far.
ReplyDeleteWhere I live there is NOOOOO public transportation. Everyone has to have a car. In my county I by ambulance coverage for $65.00 a year for my house hold. So it covers both Mr. M. and myself.
ReplyDeleteOur public transportation is only in the city limits, very litte in the rural areas!
ReplyDeleteOur public transportation is in our Triple Cities (actually a small city and two villages) only. There is only limited transportation in any of the rural areas. And, we have a lot of seniors here who either have given up driving or can't afford the gas prices. The system is getting strained. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWe have terrible public transportation here, but that's because the car companies made sure to buy up and demolish it so we'd have to buy their cars.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had my own car in many years. If I have to go somewhere either my son in law takes me or I will ride Uber.
ReplyDeleteWe have a few options here for folks who don't drive, depending on location.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine not having a car. I live in the capital of my state. It's large and things are spread out and buses don't tend to run in our area. Uber, Lyft, and taxi's are expensive. I could walk to the grocery store but would be quite limited with what I could carry home.
