photo Hunt # 23

This week theme for photo hunt is “Red” and I decide to show two of my books that have red covers on it. Well The Dangerous Book for Boy by Hal Iggulden and Gonn Iggulden.
Which one of my grand nephew will get it for a Christmas Present but I was so impress with this book I wish I got anther one for anther Nephew.
From pg 146 The Golden Age of Piracy
The word “buccaneer” comes from European Sailor who caught wild pigs on the Island of Haiti and Tortuga in the Caribbean and smoked on racks to preserve it.
The French boucaner “means to dry meat in fashion” the men referred to them selves as the “Brethren of the coast” and it is from their names came like Calico Jack and Blackbeard.

The smaller red book is poems by Robert Louis Stevens and I remember my mom reading this poem to me.
Then one time one I was quite little her and I went some where and it was clear day and we was walking on the sidewalk on Broadway and of course at time shadows was in it gigantic form and she recited this poem called “My Shadow”

I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me,
And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head;
And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my bed.

The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow--
Not at all like proper children, which is always very slow;
For he sometimes shoots up taller like an india-rubber ball,
And he sometimes goes so little that there's none of him at all.

He hasn't got a notion of how children ought to play,
And can only make a fool of me in every sort of way.
He stays so close behind me, he's a coward you can see;
I'd think shame to stick to nursie as that shadow sticks to me!

One morning, very early, before the sun was up,
I rose and found the shining dew on every buttercup;
But my lazy little shadow, like an arrant sleepy-head,
Had stayed at home behind me and was fast asleep in bed.

  1. The Dangerous Book for Boys is really popular over here, if I had any boys the right age I'd buy it but they are all either too old or too young:) I remember the Robert Louis Stephenson poem from when I was young - he wrote some great stories and poems for children.
    It was a lovely surprise to see B.Baggins photo here - thank you for saying such nice things about my blog.

  4. You and I are so much alike! I memorized that poem when I was a kid. It was my all-time favorite. It's a great poem for lonely girls. And I just got that book for my grandson for Christmas too. I regret not getting one for myself. I just heard on the radio that there is one out now for girls. But I don't know the title! :0(
