Our senior center feeds us quite well. So the day Murphy and I eat there. We have a lite or snack for our dinner meal.
I had a book printed. No, I'm not going to have it publish. Maybe some period I will. For this one. I'm consider it a practice run. Like a lot of things in our lives.(Night Cafe Picture)
We don't rake our leaves in the fall. But we're doing it now. Plus my crocus are blooming. Don't have much for flowers any more. Deers are so hard on gardens around here. Both vegetables and flowers. I might as well mention fruit trees and berries.

Yesterday evening I was watch PBS news and they had story on SOCIAL MEDIA and teenagers. When I grew up some people had land line phone. I even remember pay phone. Not sure how many watch the video. It less then 8 minute long. I don't know if any time they teach about the dangers things out there. When I was young they told us that you don't get In car with a stranger. And such. I wonder if any school here in the United States teach about how to be safe on social media. Opinion time...Algorithm is a major issue, causing rift among people. Most of the things I see though social media or what I see I agree with. I'm sure it happening to others as well. Personally I think it to over feed our ego.

Just sign up for the THE LITERACY PROJECT OF NORTH IDAHO. I'm in the Sandpoint and surrounding area, including Bonners. The two county has population of 60, 382. Which covers all groups of people. At this point there only 58 people taking part in it. Some place of I believe facebook thought they should close all library here in Idaho. I do wonder if other states is do this.(Night Cafe Picture)

ReplyDeleteOh, it's discussed with the kiddos. At least around here. The English classes have them do argumentative essays about it. I'm sure there's a better, more formalized way to discuss social media with the kids though.

ReplyDeleteOur government has places a ban on children, sixteen and under, from having a social media account. We hope it will stop the bulk of bullying that children have to deal with these days.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately. I suspect that parents will open accounts for their children just to stop them nagging. Usually these are the exact parents and children who are doing the actual bullying and the ones that will miss out will be the ones who are mature enough to use them

ReplyDeleteEven if you don't publish your book in thousands of copies, make sure you put copies in the main state library, the local libraries and your uni/school libraries. Anyone else can pay the printer for their own copy :)
Social media platforms are definitely dangerous for kids, but so can gaming platforms. Responsible parents need to be aware of and monitor their kids activities. As a former public school administrator and a priest with a parochial school, I'm very much aware of the issues these can cause.
ReplyDeleteI live in Australia and I don't know anything about our pop culture either. I remember we were also taught to not get in cars with strangers, and others were don't accept candy from strangers, don't go with them if they ask you to help find their puppy, and don't open the door to strangers. Always ask who it is and get a parent or other grown-up.
