Thought I would get something posted. Before the heat arrives. Another hot day. This morning I ask Chat Gpt a simple question....What is the difference between a journal and writing prompt?
A journal and a writing prompt aren’t the same thing, though they can work together.
Here’s the difference:
Journal | Writing Prompt |
---|---|
A place or practice for recording your thoughts, feelings, events, reflections, or creative writing over time. | A specific idea, question, or scenario given to spark or guide what you write about. |
Ongoing and often personal — you decide what goes in it. | Temporary and focused — it’s like a creative nudge. |
Can include freewriting, sketches, plans, lists, or even random musings. | Usually short and designed to get you started when you’re unsure what to write. |
Example: You open your notebook every evening and write about your day. | Example: “Write about a time you felt completely lost — physically or emotionally.” |
In short:
A journal is the container (physical or digital) and the habit; a writing prompt is fuel for that container when you need inspiration.
Now we know.
Had a grand time with granddaughters. But I need a day to recover. I did mange to get a little bit off exercise. Kind of move those joints around a bit.
Coffee is on.
I'm glad you had a fun time with the Grands and I'm sure they enjoyed it too!
ReplyDeleteGood to know
ReplyDelete...we sent a hot day at the fair yesterday. I was exhausted.
ReplyDeleteI suppose a blog is like a journal. I'm sure the grands were a lot of fun and exhausting!
ReplyDeleteI guess I write a journal but different things prompt me at different times. I do my own thing, though, and don’t follow external prompts from others very well.
ReplyDeleteAnother heat wave?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your heat wave. It's been nasty in so many places this year; I hope yours doesn't last long. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteSorry about the heat. I hope it cools down for you soon.
ReplyDeleteGrands are always fun, I'm seeing mine tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI like the container and fuel answers.
ReplyDeleteI've never used ChatGPT.
ReplyDeleteTime with the grandkids always requires recovery time for us too. Great memories made I bet!
