With A Flip Of Common Sense

One thing both my clients like CHARITY or THRIFT STORE, a bit of history.
Didn't grow up going to thrift store. But the neighbor hood kids would swap clothes. I would get older neighbor kids clothes, and once I out grew them they went to some my cousin.
That didn't both me. But when mom went basement of the different store so she could find a BARGAIN. But this did.

So spend a while in Good Will. I have to put my self on a rather strict bounds in such a place. Or I can find my self picking up unnecessary items.

So this time it was four medical or nurse scrubs. Which I will cut and make locker hook rugs. It looks on the average it take about 2 and half yards.
Cotton fabric here is about $10 a yard. And at thrift store the tops of scrubs are under $5.

Then the other items were my three grand daughters. The two youngest are in about or heading soon into a six month old. Had a little difficult time finding any piece in this size.
Then the oldest one is a size 3.

Went though my closet when I drop 15 pounds, and most of my long sleeve tops left. I have a horrible time finding tops to fit.
For a top to fit around my boobs depending on style I need a large or and extra large.
For a top to fit in shoulder depending on style I need a medium or a large.
Can you see pattern here.
If it fits me shoulder then it to tight in boobs or chest.
If it fits me boobs then it hang off shoulders.
I did find two that fit. I believe I tried on close to dozen tops.
Before I went to the dressing room, had convince my self I wasn't going to become depress over it.

Then I limited my self two extra items just for the pure nonsense of it.

Appreciate the thrift stores washing the clothes. Could swear they use extra scent laundry detergent and I guess it's way proving they wash items they put out.
But for me and I'm sure there other that the scent soaps bothers them.
So it takes a little bit of effort on my part.

Two ways of handle this trouble. Washing and drying it twice. Then the other thing I do is put out side for a while and let air out. Then only wash it once.
Where my bleach goes in washing machine I add some white vinegar.

Earlier today I put laundry basket full of items out on back deck and had flip it every half hour. So it could air out a bit.
The four photos above is each time I flip and stir the basket, that  I got from the thrift store. Trying to defuse the smell.

  1. I always wash everything I get from thrift shops too. There isn't any overpowering soap smell, but everything is clean so I know they wash them, but I still wash it all again. I haven't bought any clothes for a long time.

I am one who is allergic to overscented laundry; I use the non-bio, non-scent stuff myself, but even that does have some smell. At least I don't get itchy from it. The patterns on these clothes are lovely! YAM xx

I don't think I would like to try things on that hadn't been washed but then I would probably wash them again myself, especially if was something they made skin contact. I would not like the scent at all.

  4. I'd probably wash them in my own detergent. When I was in high school, by mom changed detergents from her regular Tide, and my feet and legs broke out in a rash where my socks touched them. So I'd be cautious in wearing something washed in an unknown detergent.

You have some nice colorful selections there!

  7. I loved going to thrift stores when my daughter was a baby. Babies outgrown clothes so fast and back then I could find a baby onsie or entire outfit for a dime. I bought a bunch of clothes in different sizes while I was pregnant and once she outgrew them all I gave them to another new mom.

  8. GoodQill is one of our favorite stores. When we moved, we donated many car loads.

true about over-scenting in the washer.

  9. I've never shopped at a GoodWill store. I do donate to them often though. My neighborhood traded clothes some too, but mostly it was with my cousin's. I got their hand me downs, and because my Mom was quite good with needle and thread she was able to make things fit nicely and or change them a bit. I have purchased a few things from a used clothes store, but like you the smell is sorta over powering. I've often wondered if they didn't wash them, simply sprayed lots of fabries?

  10. I bet some of the clothes they get stink to high heaven, so they have to really wash them. But yeah, if the clean smell it too strong, of course you'd have to wash it out.
