The Poor

Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homelesstempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
Recognize these words. And I'm going on about how we treat the poor. In so many way are system is set up to keep those who are poor down, and someone is benefiting in taking advantage of the poor.
I see it all the time. Majority of the people I take care of with a little could actual have a some what better life then the do. But there so in prison by poverty, and if they even make a squeak more then the income limits are set for them. As I mention before they can't have more then then $2,000 which includes recreational toys, snowmobile and such. Cash on hand, investments, life insurance, and your home. But your first vehicle don't count but if there a second one it does.
If some how if these people gain let say $10 oh what a mess it becomes.
Opinion time...They need to let these people have a moderate home, and increase the assets limited. Also give them away to earn or be part of the community, so they will have some self worth.

It was ask multi time about a single person needing a 2 bedroom. Well actual she mark down for a one bedroom and the amount the state is willing to pay is for a one bedroom. But since there pretty much impossible to find. So that the reason for a 2 bedroom.
But if she had a child with her it would be different.

Not posting much about the Affordable Heathcare Act. Expect a LINK but it still need to to the SENATE.
8% of my income I should be paying. Not sure if that net or gross. But I never use my hubby social security to figure the amount I should purchase medical insurance for.
It's my age and if something happen to him now. I can't get anything until I'm 62 and if I take it them I will loose 30%.

Tonight Murphy and I will take Regis up to a Mexican dinner at the Assembly God church. Actual it a Mexican bake potato dinner.

So I been good on my calorie count. This week it been at 1,947. But for today so I can have a bake potato, and the toppings. I stop at 900 calories.
Still wanting to get down to 200 pounds or close to it by the fourth of July.
I figure what my final weight around 137. But once I get down to 180 I want to check in for a breast reduction.

Off to see the kids. I know there adults but still

Coffee is on

  1. Lady Liberty is weeping these days, to see how we treat the poor, the immigrants, the elderly.

  4. It really is sad to me how your poor people are so limited with what they can have as assets. We have limits too, but they are much fairer.
I love baked potatoes, but don't like Mexican food.

  5. It must be such a worry for you all Dora. I cannot imagine why the Republicans are so determined to make life as difficult as they can for the people. I always thought it was meant to be the other way around.. for them to help as much as they could. I guess that doesn't apply when the people in power are so blinded by the power of money.. they have no souls that's for sure..

  8. I so agree with you. Seems the system is set up to make the rich richer and poor poorer.

  9. They're your kids, so they're still "the kids".

I have to think that this extreme swing of the pendulum means that things are going to swing back soon, and those who are only out to make a profit for themselves at the expense of those who have little to nothing will soon find that they have no support. I hope.

  10. More and more, it seems like there are people who blame the poor for being poor, who arrogantly think they could never ever be in the position. The empathy as well as understanding is missing and needs to be regained.

"Give me your tired your poor," etc. was run up a flag pole when America needed people to populate this country. People from around the world were welcomed with open arms. There were rules though. No "imbeciles," criminals, the ill, or unskilled were accepted. Yes, people were turned back at Ellis Island. Read the story behind how the poem became the sound track for the time.

The Ben Franklins, George Washingtons, Patrick Henry and their ilk were not poor. Uneducated, unskilled people need basic assets to launch a successful life, so immigrants were required to have sponsors. They wanted to assimilate. They valued education and work. Charity was shameful. Nothing from nothings breeds nothing. Try going to any foreign country with nothing but the clothes on your back and see how well you do. Every country has immigration quotas so why can't America? No country wants illiterate, uneducated, unskilled people to make up the citizenry. So try not to let people yank your heart strings with sob stories that are meant to manipulate you. Read. Learn the truth. Trust nothing until you investigate. Do not be ruled by your emotions.
