Three Hundred and Sixty Seven

Thought I would put my self to a personal challenge. Here in the United States they have a program called (S.N.A.P) or at one time known as food stamps which help the low income purchase food.
For the month of January Murphy and I are going to buy our food as if we were getting the full benefit of two people which is $367 dollars.
This is the amount which the government figures that we should be feeding our self with.

Out of this $367 I can't purchase such things as toilet paper, tooth paste, medication, deli foods, bakery foods, alcohol or cigarettes. But snap one can purchases candy, soda pop, tv dinner if you don't use the store microwave...yes one can buy fresh food.

At the end of this blog post they will be some links on info on snap and a for money exchange for those who live outside of the United States.

Question time... can one or a family eat nutritional on the snap program or not.

Is anyone else to take on a snap challenge.

I don't know how many of you heard about Carla of “half dozen daily” challenge. It a -decluttering-nolow-spend-challenge
One thing I'll say there having prizes....One can see I made a link just above.

I'm using my snap challenge for my no/low spend challenge.
Then for my declutter challenge...It not a big one but it needs to be done...it has 3 parts to it....clean off the coffee table and the two end tables.
In this I'm also including organizing and taking care of the items,,,not just sticking them under the bed...you know out of site out of mind...none of that.
I know it a small under taking Confession time....I want to get back out to the shed/barn and start back on that project....There to much snow on ground to get out there.
The first of January I'll post some picture

Coffee is on.

  1. Helen and I eat so basic that we don't spend near that much on food. She spends around two hundred bucks a month on cat food but I guess that doesn't count.

Well, we do eat out a lot, but just on cheap meals. Neither of us have much for incomes but we don't have much for bills either, I guess we just don't spend a lot of time thinking about it.

I'd never bother with food stamps, no need to.

I wonder what the top one percent did with their share of the five bucks I spent on christmas.

  2. Billy..we can't get them either...but to me that seem like a lot to spend on food.

  5. Thanks for stopping by my blog! We (two adults) spend about $250 per month on food items with total budget at $425 per month including nonfood items and over the counter medications. We eat really well but make sure to have the occasional dirt cheap meal (tonight was tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches) with the expensive ones like steak to stay on track.

  6. I don't know if I could get them or not, I'm not interested in even trying, I'm wise with my money and don't need such.

  7. Bill...I know we don't qualify for the snap program. I'm going to see if I could budget and purchase the entire month of January as we would be getting the entire amount from the snap program.
To me it seem like a fair amount...Be honest I don't know how much we spend on food....I think the link called benefit amount gives the low down on who qualify for the program....we have to much resources or assets to qualify.

  9. Well, I'm just a damn bum with free and clear property that doesn't need government help because my little SS money is enough to get me by, and all I've ever cared about is getting by.

But I did use government help to get rid of my teeth, I think my government owed me that after all my service to it.

  10. The $367 is for a month or a year? We have no snap program nor SS in Singapore.

  15. Singapore is a completely different culture than ours. As I understand it things are more restrictive there.

  17. Dora,
Thanks for stopping by my blog! As for us, with three boys and my husband in the house, food costs more and more every day! It's gone as soon as we buy or cook it!
