Sky Watch Friday (Was it a delight)

Every Friday there a fun meme going on called SKY WATCH FRIDAY which is hosted by Wiggers World.
Take a few minutes and look at some great sky shots and even step into your own yard and look up and see the beauty in the sky.
Even join us for sky watch

One morning I got up as the sun was coming over the parcel mountain. I find the pinks sky with the darker grey is quite outstanding.
Red sky at night

A red sunset probably[1] means good weather tomorrow.
In North America:
Red sky at night, sailor's delight,
Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.
In the United Kingdom:
Red sky at night, shepherd's delight,
Red sky in the morning, shepherds take warning.
Or
Red sky at night, shepherd's delight,
Red sky in the morning, sailor's warning.
As well as other variations, such as this one from Denmark/Norway, which translates to "Morning red gives wet days, Evening red gives sweet days":
Morgenrøde gir dage bløde.
Kveldsrøde gir dage søde.
Weather systems typically move from west to east, and red clouds result when the sun shines on their undersides at either sunrise or sunset.[8][9] At these two times of day, the sun's light is passing at a very low angle through a great thickness of atmosphere, the result of which is the scattering out of most of the shorter wavelengths — the greens, blues, and violets — of the visible spectrum, and so sunlight is heavy at the red end of the spectrum. If the morning skies are red, it is because clear skies to the east permit the sun to light the undersides of moisture-bearing clouds coming in from the west. Conversely, in order to see red clouds in the evening, sunlight must have a clear path from the west in order to illuminate moisture-bearing clouds moving off to the east. There are many variations on this piece of lore, but they all carry the same message.
Matthew 16:2-3 -- [Jesus] replied,
"When evening comes, you say,
'It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.'
And in the morning,
'Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.'"
Shakespeare, in his poem Venus and Adonis wrote:
Like a red morn that ever yet betokened,
Wreck to the seaman, tempest to the field,
Sorrow to the shepherds, woe unto the birds,
Gusts and foul flaws to herdmen and to herds.

I got and copy these from wikipedia and hope you enjoy them as much as I did

  2. Very nice picture!
Seems the sayings are similar everywhere. The German variety - roughly translated says:
Even red heralds good weather, morning reds herald bad weather.
It rhymes in german though! :)
    Cheers, Klaus

I think this is the best Sky Watch Friday yet. The things I have seen are very encouraging and the photography is spot on.

I really admire your photography skills and your critical eye for composition, lighting and texture.

  8. Happy 4th of July to you and your family, dear Dora:-) Hope you're having a fabulous day!!

I'm sorry for being so behind in visiting...when I go away for a few days, it always takes me ages to get all caught up again! Love that picture of the sky...also remember a lot of those sayings about the sky:-) I remember my dad always saying that when the sky was really red at sunset it meant a windy day the next day. Can't remember if he was right or not, though! lol xoxo

  13. Lovely sunrise; very nice for a Sky Watch. I grew up learning:
    "Evening red and morning gray,
Send the travellers on their way.
    Evening gray and morning red,
Keep the travellers in their bed."
